Adventure Tested: Twisted Throttle Denali D2 LED Lights – the Eyes of God
By the specs Twisted Throttle’s Denali D2 LED light kit is a tempting proposition, especially with a 70% increase in effective brightness (higher luminous flux) over the Denali D1 kit we ran on our Baja Adventuring Honda Varaderos. Given the D1s made a nighttime ride into Mike’s Sky Ranchero more feasible, and on and off road the D2s are an appreciable improvement.
Olympia Moto Sports X Moto All Season Transition Pant: Adventure Review
The downpour is torrential, and within minutes there is the cold creeping dampness seeping into my underwear of a waterproof promise broken. At a moderately premium price, I expected more out of the Olympia Moto Sports X Moto All Season Transition Pant purchased 10,000 kilometers ago, but those expectations haven’t borne out.
Edog on the KTM 300 EXC
EDog200, an Australian YouTube acquaintance of ours, has himself a new toy. A skilled rider and a fanatic motorcycle videographer, here’s his impression of the 2012 KTM 300 EXC.
RWC: The North – Episode 4 Excerpts
This northern alberta episode is a mix of cold temperatures, winter conditions, and northern Canadian culture. Featuring ice fishing on Alberta’s largest lake, the team tries their luck at catching pike at minus 30 below. It’s then on to Canada’s oil producing capital Fort McMurray, with a much needed rest before tackling one of Canada’s least traveled ice roads. The first of two major winter roads (ice roads) begins 60km’s north of Fort McMurray. The riders prepare themselves for their greatest challenge yet. Between rough snow patches, empty roads, and slow speed crashes, this is the start of the serious winter hardships.
Ducati Diavel – Devilish Revelations
The Ducati Diavel has stormed through the curves and canyons of the Crow’s Nest Highway between Princeton and Hope, until I’ve caught a seven Harley procession riding in staggered formation… again. As an experiment I cruise with the group for a time — nearly minutes. An opening in traffic and the Diavel launches past in a gale of carbon fiber violence. I’m unsure of the Diavel’s taxonomy, but this is clear; it is not a cruiser.
RWC: The North – Episode 3 Excerpts
Beginning in Peace River, the adventure suddenly becomes even more real as the threat of a severe winter weather warning has the team on full alert for their longest leg yet. Battling through temperatures of -30 C, the team heads northward into Northern Alberta. This northern Alberta episode is a mix of cold temperatures, winter conditions, and northern Canadian culture.
BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL – Blitzkrieg Touring
Motorcycles can be a summary of a corporation’s collective psychology, and in that case BMW’s latest super-touring fraternal twins, the K1600GT and K1600GTL, can be summed up as daring. Though, as you hunt down sport-boy on the R1, he glancing in the rear view mirror and catching a glimpse of your fully bagged ultra-opulent 1649cc, 160hp, 129lb-ft of torque, weapon of choice may sum it up as, “WTF?!?”
Farewell to a Trail: Cheakamus Canyon
This is a farewell to one of the enduro riding trails where I cut my dirt riding teeth. Conveniently located off Highway 99, the Cheakamus Canyon trail offered excitement, challenge and just a hint of danger. Inevitably, it’s been dumbed down as part of the Sea to Sky Trail, connecting the communities from Squamish to D’Arcy.
Twisted Throttle’s Adventure Kit Reviewed: Destructive Testing
Let’s go out on a pretty thick limb here, Photographer Kevin Miklossy’s Honda Varadero wouldn’t have survived the Baja intact without Twisted Throttle’s Adventure Kit. The silver ’08 from Honda Canada’s livery took the majority of the abuse, in large part due to the nature of photography.
This is my KLR – An Adventure Riding Sentiment
YouTuber HalfThrottle has an adventure bike sentiment that we can probably all get behind. Sure the video happens to be about his KLR, but we all have our bikes and if we’re lucky they hold a special place in our hearts and take us on grand adventures.
